Have you ever wondered what exactly goes into creating a website? Or how a designer ensures a website achieves its objectives?

Today, we’ll show you how following a vigorous website design process is crucial to the successful completion of every project we do—enabling us to cover a range of marketing angles and keep our clients happy!

Prism Digital’s website design and development process

Discovery phase

Speaking with stakeholders, we conduct a kick-off call using a variety of analysis methods to look at what your business and customers need. We want to find out who you're targeting, what the goal of your website is, understand your business model, and get to grips with exactly what your mission, tone and voice is supposed to be.

The idea of having all teams on the call is to make sure everyone is on the same page with regards to your tone of voice and branding. More often than not, the marketing team and sales team aren't aligned, or the IT team and technical team simply aren’t in sync. If you're a B2B company, you may have found that your IT team believes your product can sell itself, whereas your marketing team is pushing towards a stronger brand presence… When teams communicate and work well together, it's a more enjoyable and productive experience for everyone.

Site map research and build out

We then take all of our findings from the initial call and put together a site map that demonstrates how your website navigation is going to flow. At this stage, the focus is on your prospective customers and how we can ensure your site gives them clear direction.

Wireframes

Our designers then map all of the pages and content sections on your website to show how the pages will look. All these components enable us to maintain a strategic overview when making decisions throughout the website design process.

Wireframes - an example

Full mock-up wireframes

We then take your brand guidelines and implement them into our wireframes so we remain true to your vision. If you find yourself needing assistance with a new brand guide, we can work on it simultaneously and have one of our designers send over some examples of color palettes and website styles. This helps you (and us) understand and envision how your brand will look moving forward.

Review of mock-ups

As with all great collaborations, communication is key. Of course, you should give feedback and be clear on what you like and don’t like, but you should also listen to our web designer’s recommendations and consider them carefully. There will be good reasons they’ve suggested this or that, so make sure to make use of their expertise.

Development

During this stage, our developers are in their element; building, writing fresh code and testing to make sure your website is slick and super-speedy.

Quality Assurance

It’s crucial that we take the time to review your site's performance, taking care of redirects, setting up 404 error pages, and making sure there are no broken links etc.

Go-live!

Your website will go-live online and be ready to service your customers.
